I only read the first book in the Catherine LeVendeur series reluctantly, but now I can't get enough of them. I enjoyed Death Comes as Epiphany and devoured this one almost as quickly. I'm not a scholar of 12 C. France, but it appears to me that Newman has done her research and taken some historical figures and events and woven them into a wonderful story. I like Catherine and Edgar a lot and look forward to reading the rest of the series in due time.

This was my first book in this series, but I'm hooked. Good writing with great historical background in 12th century France. What really was best, though, was the plot: full of activity that keeps the story lively and interesting. While there is a light undercurrent of a love story, it's mostly about the story. Full of the mud and dirt of the time; cruelty and kindness, spirituality and crudeness live side-by-side. Can't wait for the next in the series to arrive.
