Nowhere in the British Isles are there ports so rich in tradition or men so experienced in seamanship as those of Devon. Here on the waterfronts of Plymouth and Dartmouth, Bideford and Appledore, history was made. And many a hazardous and momentous voyage set sail from these famous ports.
But Devon Harbours does not deal exclusively with the past. Tourists and yachtsmen will find much useful information about the present-day harbours. While the authors emphasise that, far from being picturesque show-pieces, Devon harbours to-day are as vital and alive as ever in their history.
