Unlike most of Hill's books, this one starts out with the musings of a serial killer just getting started - I didn't finish reading it - my preference only.

Excellent book. Reginald Hill is a master of words. This
book is for readers who like their mysteries to be
challenging.
My only regret is the final 'follow-up' chapter. I wish
he had dispensed with that.
