I am a 10 year old and thought this book was a 5 star book. It is a very humorous read. I would say it is an ultimate favorite for all readers. And me , myself read a lot of books and this is in my top 10 list of favorites.

My son read this book in two days. For a reluctant reader such as himself, this was quite an accomplishment! The book is hilariously funny, and with the combination of writing and cartoons it's sure to be a hit -- especially with boys.

Okay, for starters, this book is funny and a very amusing read. But that didn't keep me from throwing it in the trash. I ordered this book for my second grader, but once she alerted me of its less-than-honorable language and conduct, I read it myself. I assumed (whoops) that since all the little kids were reading it, it'd be harmless. And to some, or many, it is. But I'm working my tail off to raise pure, honorable, sincere, honest kids, and this book would certainly undermine that! The hero of our tale lies regularly and looks to deceive grownups and parents as a matter of habit with no twinge of conscience. Name-calling and judging of other kids happen continually. Sneaky disobedience and manipulative apologies abound. Maybe to many in our culture, that is adorable. To me, it lowers the bar and normalizes base, vile, and worthless behavior. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. We will aim high, and we will try to order our conduct with honesty, integrity, and respect for all people. I'm such a prude! Too bad this talented author wastes his very witty writing in a book that gives the young reader nothing to aspire to. Oh well.

My 10 year old niece handed me this book and told me that I had to read it because it was so funny. I really didn't expect too much, but I have to say I laughed out loud. It's definitely for kids, but it's a quick read for adults and has a few really funny moments. I had heard that this was a popular book for boys, but I can't imagine any 9-12 year old not getting a kick out of it.

This book was hilarious and only took me a few hours to read. Written in diary format, lined pages, lots of hilarious doodles to illustrate the hilarious thoughts of poor wimpy Greg, it kept me laughing. Greg may be wimpy, but the funny thoughts & situations he describes will resonate with everyone.

I've given it to my 8th grader and my 4th grader to read next. I hope they get as many laughs as I did.

This book was unexpectedly hilarious. I was waiting for my wife to get ready to go out to eat and picked it up to read a few pages. Next thing I know I'm 80 pages in and laughing uncontrollably. I loved this book. The artwork and humor is fantastic. It's a quick, light read that will have you chuckling throughout. I finished it the next day.

Summary: Greg must survive middle school despite his clueless parents, his bullying older brother and his idiot friend.

My kids LOVE this book. I couldn't get into it, but if they can read it to themselves, it is really fun. Both boys read whole series and won't part with them.

This isn't a bad series, but I suggest reading the online version that it is based on. The online version is less censored, has more interesting and funnier plotlines, and is generally better. Go to http://www.funbrain.com/journal/Journal.html?ThisJournalDay=1&ThisPage=1 for it.

Witty, middle-school-friendly coming-of-age story about a boy and the adventures he encounters during his first year in middle school. As a middle school counselor, many of the issues he struggles with are pretty real, but told in a very entertaining, fun cartoon! I love that this is laid out like the main character's journal! Highly recommended for all readers, especially kids that typically hate reading. They will love this one, especially if they are in 5th, 6th, or 7th grade!

I think this book was so funny! Great for middle school students going through a lot of the same things. I laughed many times when I read it as an adult. Get book to read and share with family members or a great read aloud for a teacher in a classroom!

These books are very hilarious. I have not read dog days or the last straw. Rodrick Rules was my favorite. In these books, Gregory gets in trouble A LOT, which is pretty funny.

So by my calculations, Gregory is just turning 21, and not famous yet, unless he is working on the Trump campaign.

If you work with middle grade kids, be sure to check out DIARY OF A WIMPY KID.

Greg Heffley is a 6th-grade weakling trying to make his mark in the middle school world. His family includes a mom, a dad, a heavy metal big brother, and a whiny, tattling little brother. His best friend is Rowley, another odd 6th-grader with overprotective parents and the world-class ability to annoy.

Greg is always a victim of the big, mean bullies in the school. He constantly seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. In an attempt to be "cool" he experiments with the idea of weightlifting, creating his own haunted house, running for class treasurer, and building a snowman big enough to be considered for the Guiness Book of World Records. However, the only mild success he accomplishes is as a safety guard whose job is to walk the kindergarten kids home at lunchtime.

At least with that job he gets free hot chocolate and misses twenty minutes of math class.

Readers will be able to relate to Greg's typical teenage problems. His parents ground him from his video games, his older brother picks on him, his little brother gets him in trouble, and the girls in his school think he is a waste of their time. He'd like to pretend he's just a mediocre student when he is really one of the "uncool" gifted kids. The odds are just stacked against him.

Kinney bills his books as "a novel in cartoons," which is sure to be a popular feature with middle grade readers, especially those of the reluctant variety. The clever illustrations were a fantastic way to play up the already great humor in the book.

Once again, if you have anything at all to do with middle graders, get this book in their hands ASAP.

I'm not sure whether it's more like "The Simpsons" or "Malcolm in the Middle". The movie is better than the book, in my humble opinion, maybe because it seems to have more about the school and less about Gregory's home life.
