Fascinating, Doctor! Lucius Rhinehart, a bored and stagnating psychologist, decides that he is going to spice up his life by leaving some of his decisions to chance - that is, he assigns a certain number to each of several choices, rolls the dice, and does whatever the dice say. Sounds like a fun game, right? His first "decision" is whether or not to go to bed with his wife, stay up reading, or go down the hall and rape his attractive neighbor. The dice chose rape, further complicated by the fact that the attractive neighbor has a crush on him and wants to continue the affair. I thought "Okay, this story is taking a turn for the weird..." Luke eventually becomes "The Dice Man", leaving ALL of his decisions to the dice, no matter how trivial, in order to become the ultimate random man. But is he actually descending into true insanity, or have the dice choices merely made him APPEAR insane to his family and colleagues? Regardless, his complete putting aside of social niceties in order to follow The DiceLife will have far-reaching impacts on everything in Luke's world. I thought it was both hilarious and fascinating, and found myself eyeing up a pair of dice, wanting to try it myself. Highly recommended for fans of subversive literature.
