I'm assuming Wish list means the books are out there with other swappers and I'm just in line waiting. Reminder list means there are no books by that name available for swapping??

No.  Wish list is books you are in the waiting list for.  And what position you are in.  Reminder list is for books that you want to remember.  Books on your RL can be available or not.  You are not in line for them.  And you can sort your RL by how many copies are available.

Many folks add books to their RL to find out how many copies of a book are posted.  I know if there are 100 copies posted, then I'll not keep that book on my bookshelf.  I'll donate it somewhere rather than have it taking up space for a year.

The Wish List is limited to 200 books.  There is no limit to your reminder list.

I'm new and I've added several books to my reminder list that I have here in the house that I see other people want but I don't want to add them to my bookshelf right now because I've mailed 7 books in three days and I'm nearly out of money for mailing this month. When I go back next month and add more books, I'll pull the ones that have the longest wish list off my reminder list and place them on my bookshelf. I've also added a few books that I might want to wish list when i've built up a few more credits.

You also have the option to put books on your wish list, then put the books on hold.  This will let you move up the Wish list line, but not be offered the book until you turn the hold off, such as when you have the credits.  I highly recommend that.  Some wish lists move very slowly.  (Some are quite quick.)

The Wish List hold is very different than the bookshelf hold.  DO NOT USE the bookshelf hold, instead try and use the vacation hold option.  (The bookshelf hold puts you at the end of the line.  Very shocking after getting used to the wonders of the Wish List hold.)

What books are not available?  They should all be available to Wish List, just not to order.  Even books that are not yet released should be available to WL.  (Well, once they have a 13 digit ISBN.)  If you are over 200 books, you get a notice that the book was not added.

Also check that all the books on your Wish List have a long ISBN (10 or 13).  The short (5 or 6 numbered) ones are for one time posting.

If a book can't be put on your WL, it means that the book is available to be ordered.

If I'm understanding the OPcorrectly .... books can not be wishlisted if you can already order them in the system - in other words, they are available for order. So, I'm thinking that the books you can't wishlist are in the system for you to order so the option to wishlist isn't there. In that case, you'd put them on your reminder list in case you want to order them one day.

Wishlisted books have a waiting list. Essentially by wishlisting a book you are putting yourself on a waiting list.

The reminder list can be used for books with waiting lists and books in the system waiting to be ordered. It can be used for many functions. The wishlist has one function and that is to wait in line to get that particular book. As people post the book you make your way up the waiting list until you're finally number one.

Yep.  I stand corrected.  Books should be available to either order or to Wish List.  The Wish List is the waiting line.  Either type can be put on your reminder list.
