I downloaded a couple of books from Kobo that are EPUB format. On Kobo, it lists Nook as an acceptable reader for these books. I loaded the books in Adobe Digital Editions. They look fine there. Then I transferred them to my Nook. When I open them with my Nook I get the error "User Not Activated". I only get this error on the Kobo books. All my other EPUB books downloaded from Smashwords and other sources that I transfer from Adobe DE work fine. Is there something special I need to do to get my Nook to open these books from Kobo? I was just in B&N and asked the Nook guy if the Nook was compatible with other e-readers and he told me that you could only get books from B&N on the Nook. He also told me that the Nook did accept epub books. If you can, go into B&N and see if they can help you. |

Nancy, my Kobo email address was different than my Adobe ADE/B&N, so I fixed that. But, I am still having problems. I can only download one of the 3 (as the other two are no longer free). So, I re-downloaded it after I changed my email address. Still doesn't work. What I noticed is that when I download from Kobo, it downloads a link rather than the actual ePUB file. Then it automatically opens in Adobe ADE. None of my other files do this. They download as a ePUB and then I add them to my Adobe ADE library. I notices another odd thing. I also have Nook for PC. I use it when a book is being finicky with Adobe ADE. I can upload the Kobo books to Nook for PC. But, when I try to transfer them to my Nook it doesn't work. The books are listed, I select them, and hit the arrow, and then the cursor dies. I can transfer any other ePUB or PDF this way, but not these Kobo books. I really wanted to start this book today...darn it! I guess I could login to the Kobo website and read it there. I'm frustrated though. I want it to work the right way. |

Nancy, that's the way it's happening for me. I download from Kobo, then Adobe ADE opens up immediately. The book appears. I can open it in ADE without a hitch. Then I attach my Nook and it appears in the left hand column. I drag the book there. It appears on my Nook. But, when I open it on my Nook it is still showing "user not activated". I'm baffled. I'm doing things just the same for other ebooks and they come up fine on Nook after being transferred from Adobe ADE. I don't know if I should Uninstall ADE and reinstall it to see if that clears the problem. I'll try doing another free book. I did 3 the same day with the same results, but maybe now that I've changed my email address it will work. |

Melody, have you authorized your Nook? Here are instructions: |

Elizabeth, yes, my Nook is authorized. I'm not having trouble using Adobe ADE with any other website downloads except Kobo. I've been using Nook with ADE without any problem until this Kobo downloads. I started to have a weird problem with ADE. It goes really slow when I open it. Then it gives me this i/o error repeatedly -- each box is a title of a Kobo book. It flashes this about 20-30 times and then stops. So, I uninstalled ADE and reinstalled it. It didn't clear the problem I also tried downloading another free book from Kobo, but it isn't working either. Same error.

Do you open the file and then save or do you save to your hard drive first? Did you authorize the Nook in Adobe Digital Reader? I know with the Sony Ereader, I had to authorize the device first and then it would sync properly. I am not sure if works the same for the Nook. |

Robin, yes, I did authorize my Nook to work with Adobe ADE. As I said, they both work together happily until I try to read a Kobo book on my Nook. All other company's books are readable that I've transfered from ADE to my Nook. The Kobo books won't open. With Kobo, the file automatically opens in ADE after I click the download button on their website. Then ADE puts it in it's library. The strange part is I can load the book separately into Nook for PC. That's not a problem. But, once I transfer from either program to my Nook I get that error. |

I found this site: http://www.geekgumbo.com/2010/08/18/loading-epub-books-into-the-nook/ It explains the process, which you probably know, but at the bottom there is a place where you can post a question and the person answering sounds knowledable regarding the Nooks and Adobe Digitial App. You could post your problem and maybe he will be able to help you solve the problem?? Found this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3432695 - The ADE may not have registered properly from several threads I have read. In the thread above it tells you how to unregister and register. About the 7th response I think addresses your problems. Maybe not, but it is a start?? If you keep scrolling down there is another trouble-shooting step if the first one does not work. BTW I serched "Kobo ePub books do not open properly on the Nook". Good Luck!

I found using the free downlaod site of "calibre" will accept all verisons of e-books. Then you indicate that you have the nook and it will convert the e-book so the nook recongizes it. I only use abobe ditigal for downloading e books from my public library. I am not that grreat with the computer yet calibre is extremely user friendly. This sodtware also sorts your books into different files if you want to. I love the site. |

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look through them today. Since Kobo's books are the only ones I can't open on my Nook, I've sort of put the problem aside. I don't know much about calibre. I will have to check it out. |

It worked! It worked!! It worked!!! Thanks to Robin's link I was able to get the Kobo books to work. Uninstalling ADE, reinstalling it, and reactivating my Nook didn't help. My guess is because the file on my Nook wasn't affected. I followed the instructions from the post Robin linked to. I had to delete the ADE folder from my Nook and do everything all over. I'm going to post the instructions in case someone else has the same problem. 1. Connect Nook to your computer 2. Go to Computer (or however you view folders for devices connected to your computer). 3. You'll see different devices listed: hard drive, Nook, and whatever else. Click on the Nook. 4. Delete the entire folder that says .adobe-digital-editions" from you Nook. 5. Disconnect the Nook from the computer. 6. Click on ADE. 7. Connect your Nook to your computer. 8. ADE will ask you activate your Nook. Proceed with activation/registration. 9. Once that is done, move whatever books you want to your Nook. 10. Safely remove your Nook (I go to Computer and then click Safely Remove) and unplug the Nook. Once I deleted the folder and redid the activation I could open the 4 problems books. Cool! Thanks Robin!!! |
