I was at the County Library the other day. Checking out the for sale books. And found one 1 that I thought sounded like a good read. Now I don't put a lot of thought into it .25 cents a book. I usually just pick it up and bring it home for a good look.

Well brought it home it looked just ok. Then I thought of the 65 really good books I have on my RM. Checked out if anyone had WL this book I had just pick up. 19 people wanted this book that I was luke warm about reading. Had to struggle for two days. Do I want to read this or not.

Does this happen to you?

I've also been looking around the house for all the books you buy thinking you would like to read and don't. What fun.

How long does it take you to decide to read or swap.

I do this ALL the time. I started buying used books that are not my genre just because I know they will be wishlisted. My husband told me I needed to start reading them first, so now I have a huge pile of WL'd along with my own big TBR. I send a few off without reading if I get in a couple of pages and I just really don't click with the book. I have also found some great reads by doing this. I do hate to part with a book before I send it off, but I'd need to read 3 books a day to get through my unread ones in a year.

Me too.  I go to the thrift store and get 15 books at a time to trade, and while I'm there I might think 1 or 2 look good for myself.  When I get home to post them, I think, oh, maybe I should read this one first!  And I end up posting 4 or 5 out of the 15.  I have boxes of books that are "maybes."  And then I still go to the library, which I just did, and take out five more books!!  But isn't it a pleasure when you've finished a book, and it's time to choose a new one...

1-2 chapters.  ;)  I picked up a book at the local swap shelf, and for me it is coma-inducing but when I searched by title I found it waitlisted by several people LOL!  Now my only decision is whether to wait a week or end my 2-for-1 sale early.  I don't mean to be stingy, but I'm still pretty new and have less than 40 books on my shelf--I did the special as more of a holiday nicety than any deep desire to get rid of stuff quickly.  :)

I do this all the time. At first I was of the mindset that I will read every book that comes into the house. I tell you, having a house to sell and move coming up makes it easier to pitch them quick if they don't grab my interest.  2 weekends ago I forced myself to post a bunch of books that I didn't think I'd get around to reading.  Most were bought used and have been collecting dust.  Many of them were requested quickly or WL.  So I earned another 30 credits in the last 2 weeks and cleared up some space.  I sold a bunch of the credits to pay for PBS postage.  I got an order for 3 books yesterday that I haven't read.  I have 300 unread books and these came in ebay book bundles that came with another book that I did really want.  One of the books is a hardback that I picked up for .50 and after flipping through decided I wouldn't read.  It was snagged quickly.  No big loss to me.  I'll put the credit towards I book I really want to read.

I'm funny that way too.....you hate to pass up something that's "valuable".  I wonder, what if I start hearing all this wonderful stuff about this book and the wishlist shoots up to hundreds of people and I'm the idiot that had it in my posession and was too dumb to read it?  Like I can't recognize decent reading material or something.  Other times I just say to myself, your tastes are not those of the masses.  Don't even try, you poser!  As you can see, I have issues.

I had the same mindset for the first year or so that I was a member here. My fear was always that I would run out of things to read. Now that I have been here for a bit I have come to realize that I have an unlimited supply of books here. I say post them. If I decide that I may want to read it someday, I put it on my reminder list before I post it. I can always order it again. Now that I am a Boxer, I can order it again without even spending a credit.

My books are everywhere in my apartment, and I mean everywhere!  I'm hoping in the next few months to reconfigure my furniture and buy a few more book shelves, and at that point I'll be able to get everything on the shelves.  I have a feeling I'll find several duplicates, as well as be able to look at the "maybe" books more objectively.  For the last year the number of books coming into my place has far exceeded the number going out, and that can only happen for so long before I reach my bookspace limit--so at that point I'll be posting several.  It's hard to know exactly what you have when half your books are in boxes and you can't remember what's in them.

I once bought a Christopher Moore book for a quarter and posted it--it went right away.  About 6 months later someone turned me onto a new author--you guessed it..Christopher Moore.  The book I sent out has a long WL--I wonder if I'd get my same book back LOL

I have bins and bins of books - because I do this!

I've actually giving myself a 50 page rule - if I don't like it within 50 pages, it's offered to the PBS crew!
