I LOVE this book. I picked it up used from a family friend of mine, old, tattered, and falling to bits. I read through it pretty quickly, and I'm (barely) saving the last 30 pages or so until I get the next one so it can be fresh in my mind.
A book with wonderful political threads, and a fantasy-adventure to die for!

An exciting adventure! And what a cliffhanger of an ending! Set in a world called Matrin, who's map only slightly resembles our own, this is a detailed novel set in a land rich with its own history, religion, and vocabulary. It is full of excitement from the very first pages! In fact, that is my only real complaint - it would have been nicer to have more of an introduction to the characters and their unique world before thrusting them into one tough situation after another. Of course, now that the plot is deeply underway, I hardly want the action to stop for more back story, However, there are a few things that I hope are better explained in the remainder of this trilogy.
