This is my first time reading John Barnes. While I found this to be a good read, I would mark that it is more fiction then science fiction. The story itself was good, but not really what i was expecting from a "Master of the Genre"

Some of the reasons I gave this book 3 stars were:
There seemed to be some characters that were introduced and built up but did not come back into the story.
The "science" fiction parts of the book were few and far between.
Found there to be gaps in the storyline where a sub-plot was started then dropped without any resolution.

I am still going to read the next book in the trilogy in hopes that the story picks up.
