I was wondering, is a book that looks like it spent some time on the floor of an office, scuffed up just a bit, not something that can be wiped off, postable? Can you look at the back of my book and tell me what you think? Sorry in advance the picture is crappy. Last Edited on: 9/27/09 2:46 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

The "dirty" looks like ink smudges from a wet printer page running across it in spots.... no way it is coming out. The rest of the book is wonderful though. |

One of the conditions for swappabilty here is "not soiled." So if it is dirty, it's not postable. Just scuffed is probably okay. Ink smear from the publisher, that's not covered. I'd probably post it then PM when it was requested. |

Anyone else have some advice on this? |

Kim, It is hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like a smear from when the book was printed, which isn't the same thing as soiled, IMHO. Is this the only page like this? Are the last 2 sentences readable? Can't tell from the picture. If yes to both of those questions, I think it would be postable. I saw this type of question in another thread about printer ink blotches and the consensus was that it was postable as long as it did not interfere with reading the text.

Kim - I am with Patty on this - if it looks like ink smudges from the printing house - I would post and PM the sender. If it is actual dirt from someone putting their foot on the book - not postable. I had one similar - it was on the last page not near any text and it look like black smudge...but not from a pen or marker, but the printing house. A buddy requested a few books from me and she knew I had this one but not on my bookshelf at the time....she expressed interest. I included it as a bonus book and told her she could decide if it was postable when she was finished. I don't know if she has read it yet what she did with the book. I was really torn if I should post it or not - so I just gave it away to save myself from thinking about it anymore! If it is man made -don't post and if it looks like it is done from the printing house I would post and PM. Sorry - I the pic wasn't that clear. |

Sorry Kim, the picture is too blurry to tell -- and the type of blur from taking a picture of something too close looks a lot like dirt. When taking pictures of books (or other objects in close range) putting your camera on the "macro" setting would make the picture much clearer. There's usually a button in the shape of a flower that denotes "macro." |
