LeGuin's worlds are always intricately constructed and workable, but the stories she sets on them don't make for light reading. This tale of a man who attempts to create understanding and cooperation between societies on twin planets, moves at less than a snail's pace and is flawed by a shifting timeline and impenetrable discussions of the physics of time.
