I think this is one of the more exciting books in the series. The action never seems to stop. Drinkwater keeps getting into trouble, including a rebellious crew, and keeps getting out of it too. If you are familiar with the changing of alliances during the Napoleonic Wars you have a hint to what will happen in the latter part of the book. There are so many "sides" in this novel you almost need a scorecard to keep track of them. I was especially interested in the "mountain man" and his activities.
