Gordon Christie, a recent vet school grad, is substituting for a Dr. Potter in Vail. He is almost run off the highway on the way to Vail, by a mysterious blonde man and a grinning doberman. Immediately after arriving at Potter's clinic,he's called in on an emergancy. The police have found a dead man in an apartment but cannot gain entry because the dead man's dog will not let them pass. Of course, it's the blonde man and the doberman. Christie ponders these developments, while boarding the doberman. He also treats a wide and varied assortment of bunnies, cats, dogs, and a chameleon.
