As the king walked along reach... more »ing down now and again to pet the head that was nearest to him, King Kris felt a sort of melancholy day dreaming of the times gone by when the castle was filled with the noises of happy elves, gnomes, fairies, dragons, unicorns, ogres, and every other sort of magical creature that could be imagined. Almost all were gone now, having disappeared to live among the humans who lived in the villages many days journey from the kingdom where they had once lived. The old villages near the castle were nearly deserted, only a few of the older creatures still remained, a couple of giants, a garden gnome here and there, a couple of the elves who had always taken care of the castle. All the rest had long since gone to the human villages. The humans had wanted the magical creatures to live among them, because these creatures were so very unique and they each had a remarkable ability to entertain them with stories from the magical world in which they had lived. King Kris missed them all very much, and wished they would come back home, but being a wise and kind king, he also wanted them to be happy more than anything else. His long time companion and friend, the Sorcerer Andy, was also missing the creatures and the opportunities they had presented for him to demonstrate his powers. Now, Andy and Kris spent much of their time reminiscing about the days when all the creatures came to them for answers. But most of all, King Kris missed the dragons. Dragons were the oldest and the wisest of all the creatures in the magic world and they had been the guardians of the wealth of his kingdom. Still, for many years now, King Kris had not seen any of them, not even one had come to the castle, or even flown by it. His mind was occupied with all these thoughts as he walked out into the courtyard to take his morning stroll. A gentle breeze was moving the blades of grass and the leaves of the trees when he looked up to see what looked like a fairy caught in the breeze and being gently moved along with it. As he looked up and watched the little fairy came closer and closer, King Kris was elated, it had been a long time since he had seen any of the fairies, he called out to this one to see if it would stop and visit with him this was only the beginning of a great deal to come.« less
