I posted a book on two separate sites (this one plus another one) and apparently it was wishlisted on both sites. However, I responded to the other site first and not only agreed to send, but wrapped and sealed the book. That's when I discovered the wishlist request here for the same book. The request is pending, so I can't go and remove it from my bookshelf and can't decline the request either. It's like it is in limbo. Does that mean I have to wait fro the actual request and then decline it? Can I undo this any sooner? Believe me, I feel like a dope for doing this and not checking first. I guess I have learned a lesson about being careful with listing on multiple sites.

Sorry Carla, but you will need to wait for someone to actually request the book before you can decline it.

I'm sorry but, I do have to disagree with Sari-Lynn....you can contact TPTB via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page and they can cancel the request for you....that would be best because if there are multiple WL folks it could potentially take awhile for someone to order and then that person will be disappointed.

Sari Lynn is correct - wait until someone accepts the book and then cancel the request.  That way, the person will go back to the front of the line for the book :)

If you put your account on vacation the book will go on your shelf if the 1st person times out.  I go on hold alot and this has happened to me.  I've posted a WL book then had it time out on someone.  I had to unhold it to get it to go on to the next person.  So you could put your account on hold-if it's accepted then decline for other reasons (not RCS)-if it times out then just delete the book from your shelf before unholding.

I do another book site as well and try to only post books to one site at a time.  The only time I post to both is when it's a heavily posted book.  If it's WL on PBS I don't post it on the other site.

You could contact TPTB to remove the transaction, but on the other hand, if the book goes through a few people who have it wishlisted but apparently don't really want it and they let it time out, then you'll be doing the wishers behind those folks who ARE waiting for the book a service by moving them up in the line. When someone accepts, just cancel the order. That person will be disappointed, but as long as YOU cancel, not the wisher, they will return to the head of the line.

I have WL books posted and then cancelled all the time. I don't think it's necessary to go into detail as to why, just "I no longer have this book" should suffice. I get more cheesed off when someone posts a book, cancels and sends me a PM saying, "Sorry, I meant to post this to my friend's wishlist" or something like that than just a cancellation with no explanation. Stuff happens, and it will come up again eventually.
