I have 5 magazines that I've looked through once. I'll take 1 credit for all 5 books.

Hi Wendy,

Welcome to PBS. Please note the following from the help docs:

The rules in the Book Bazaar include limits on both

  • New topics - each member may create up to two topics each day.  Of any kind. It does not matter what the topic is about.  Only two new Book Bazaar topics each day, per person.

  • 'Bumping' a topic - 'Bumping' means to Post a new post in a topic for the purposes of bringing the topic to the top of the forum list ( = the "front page" of the Bazaar).  Each member may 'bump' a total of twice a day.  The 'bumps' may not be applied to the same topic.

Please note that Posting in your own topic may be interpreted as a 'bump' in some circumstances - to avoid this, you shouldgenerally stick to

    • Editing the original post in a topic if you need to change a book list or a deal, or add information - editing the OP will not bump the topic
    • Responding to other members in PMs (if other members post in the topic about the deals they want, for example) and by posting in the topic

Note that if you create two topics on Monday, two on Tuesday and two on Wednesday that means you would have 6 active topics in the Bazaar by Wednesday (the earlier ones will have fallen off the front page).  If you want to bump any of your topics, you have to choose two.  You may not bump more than twice per day.  It does not matter how many active topics you have.

These limits are designed to allow everyone fair access to have a topic on the "front page" of the Book  Bazaar, which (obviously) gets the most views.

The reasoning for this: the topics that appear on the front page of the Book Bazaar fall into the following categories:

  1. Brand new topics (just created)
  2. Topics that have been "bumped" - this is limited to once per day, so this effect is brief
  3. Topics that other members are interested in, and are posting in.

That is why we have placed limits on #1 and #2, so that no one can keep creating new topics and/or bumping their old topics to crowd others out, and so that #3 prevails - the result is that general member interest drives what appears on the front page of the Bazaar.

We hope this helps you understand why we have these rules for the Bazaar.  Happy swapping!
