This was an engaging story told from multiple points of view and 2 different timelines-the present and 25 years earlier. In the present, we follow the parents when their daughter doesn't come home from school and in the days following as the search is begun and the clues and suspects develop. We also follow the lives of the neighbors and suspects and layer by layer we find there are so many secrets and surprising clues along the way. Then we have the viewpoint of Kate 25 years earlier that's extremely interesting as it develops but for most of the book we have no idea how it is related to the present events. I did enjoy this but it didn't quite hit the mark for me. I think because I was expecting a thriller and instead it is more of a family drama. It is a clever tale with twists and an enjoyable read if you go in without the expectation of a thriller.
