Marla E. (marla17) reviewed Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease: The Only System Scientifically Proven to Reverse Heart Disease Without Drugs or Surgery on
I love this book though it does go into a bit of detail. Dr Ornish leads you through the causes and consequences of heart disease and makes a compelling case for his program.
This is the program in a nutshell and I don't know why there aren't many HMOs that offer something like it when the success of his plan is not disputable after all this time. It is a good read though long but full of useful information.
This book (and the program) were recommended (insisted upon!) by both my family practitioner and cardiologist. Can't beat those recommendations. It's easy reading, and has exercises with illustrations and recipes.
My husband has heart disease and this book has helped me to steer him toward a healthier diet. It is too soon to tell if his heart health has improved, but we have both lost weight and feel better. I look forward to hearing his doctor say that he can reduce his medications and won't need any surgical interventions.
