Dr. Gott's approach to this diet is no nonsense, safe & nutritious. It is aimed towards anyone who wants to lose weight; even with a medical condition. You can eat anything, prepared any style as long as it does not contain any type of FLOUR (all purpose, pastry, cake, whole-wheat, unbleached, rye, rice, brown rice, corn, barley) or SUGAR (cane, beet, brown, raw, molasses, honey, corn syrup, maple syrup, brown rice syrup, glucose or sucrose)Fructose & lactose are allowed. He promotes it as simple & it is-for people who live alone or for people who are committing to their 1st serious diet to lose 100 lbs. He states correctly that it is an inexpensive diet as you would be preparing your food from scratch. He lists 60 recipes, from appetizers thru desserts, that use normal vegetables/fruits & spices. The only 'alien' ingredients to me were arrowroot powder & fruit sweetener. Plenty of diet recipes list 'non-fat' or 'reduced fat' which is just tiring to read. Explanations of food groups & moderation are easily understood & there are plenty of testimonials in the book by people who have lost weight by committing to the diet. This book did not tell me anything new and reiterated that portion control & moderation will keep you healthy. It's not helpful to me personally as I cook for a family & cannot entirely eliminate fried foods, bread, pasta, bottled salad dressing and snacks. He condemns the Atkins Diet but @ least The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet allows forbidden foods in small portions.
disappointed in this book...no new information, and the recipes aren't that great!
