I bought this from a branch library sale shelf along with four other books wished for by PBS comrades and posted it first. It was immediately snapped up so I only read a dozen pages. I find that it is a good read and draws one on page to page. As I use material to improve the reading skills of high school students, I read where Dr. J starts college at UMass. This would make a good offering as supplemental reading in a history class. He had a good head on his shoulders and avoided the pitfalls while having some fun, studying, and constant basketball work outs.
The freshman coach has an ill-considered exercise at practice that leads to Dr. J breaking his hand and being out for several weeks. "I have nothing to do but work on my left-handed dribbling and shooting. I develop as many lefty moves around the basket as I have right-handed moves, and I am able to tip and then control the ball entirely with my left hand, which will allow me to keep another player off me with the right. I also spend that time working on my running and leaping."
Photos, but no glossary--readers need to know some terms such as jab step and face up. No index so I deducted one star from my evaluation.
