My favorite Pern book, hands down. It focuses on different characters in the Landing party without getting jumbled, and weaves them together in unexpected ways. I love the antics of Sorka and Sean, and it is so much fun to watch them grow - seeing how they mature and how they don't. ;) This book will also tug at your heartstrings with the story of Sallah Telgar and others. All around an interesting, diverse read.

The start of the Pern series. What's not to love? Great book, fantastic series. One of my all time favorite authors!

Really good introduction to an entirely new world...made me want to read all the others that followed.

The book that tells how Pern, and those amazing dragons, began. All the Pern books are wonderful. This one isn't my favorite, but I do like how it explains the origin of the dragons and various parts of the Pernese government and structure.
