I have a stack of books I need to drop off at the post office, postage already applied through PBS, and I was wondering if it mattered which post office I used. I would like to start dropping them off on my way to work in the mornings, since I drive right past one, but it is in a different zip code than where I live (and subsequently where my packages show being mailed from.) Is this a problem, or does it really matter which box you use, since postage is already on the packages? Thanks!

It shouldn't matter since it is preprinted postage. I use meter postage which I buy at work and drop off the books at my home blue boxes and it has never been a problem. I live at least 3 towns away from my office. However, I've run into problems when I bring it up to the counter. I've had clerks tell me I must mail from the PO to which the preprinted label reflects. I've looked that up in the postal regulations and it doesn't appear to be true. Don't know where those clerks get their training from. |

I apreciate the replies.. I didn't think there would be a problem, but I wasn't entirely sure, so I wanted to get someone else's opinion as well. Thanks again! |

I know for sure it doesn't matter because our return address is TX but we ship books from all over the country and have never had a problem. Mainly go into small post offices, very friendly and usually more customer oriented (except the ones who think it is their personal post office and "outsiders" don't belong there. Only ran into that once but it was bad, she had returned our Priority package c/o general delivery because she didn't want it "cluttering up her" post office. |
