What a hot mess. I found The Duke frustratingly convoluted and crawling with characters and secrets I could never keep straight. Gabriel and Amaranthus's relationship was plagued with miscommunications and separations that sucked the joy right out of the tale. After each intimate interlude, they would be separated yet again. That's just crazy making. If you enjoy being jerked from one end of the world to another with the main couple constantly at odds despite their yearning to be with each other, then by all means dig in. Otherwise, I say give it a wide berth. 2 stars.
