I haven't read this book yet and was wondering if it was a good read? I relly enjoyed almost all of Kings books (I LOVE the Gunslinger books) and realized I haven't read this one yet.

I saw there was another thread below for Duma Key discussion but didn't want to open in case there were spoilers in it :-)

I really enjoyed Duma Key.  Not as amazing as The Stand, but it was a fantastic, creepy, atmospheric haunted island story.  Very Southern Gothic with wonderful, three-dimensional characters.

I'm in the minority.  I think my expectations were too high, because I read so many glowing reviews where people said it was King writing the way he did in the beginning of his career.   It was ok, but I didn't think it compared to King's early writing at all.  But, don't let that stop you from reading it - my taste must be different from the majority.  Most readers loved it.

I thought it was an interesting read especially since I am in Florida, but NONE (as far as I am concerned) have been as good as The Stand.....although I think the book CELL came close to the stand in its premise, the writing and the characters.  My biggest disappointment with Stephen King......IT....c'mon ...really?

I LOVED this book!!! I didn't think it was S.K. old school, I thought it was a new thing for him. Blaze was definately old school but very good. Just After Sunset was also very good IMO!!!

I truly loved this book, and feel that as Stephen King gets older, his books get better, kind of like a fine wine. Some of his older books tend to have too many run on sentences, where he's giving too deep a description of something I don't care about! But with Duma, the descriptions are truly wonderful and help you 'see' what he is talking about. The characters are great, and you actually feel for the main character. It is sad at times, but still classic King, only better.

I hope they make it a movie!

I thought it was OK. But I'm a typical as not a big King fan. I read it because of the setting, supposedly near Sarasota, and that was disappointing. It could have been just about any island anywhere. But the creep factor seemed excellent.

I never thought I'd like Stephen Kings books, but a friend from work just gave Duma Key to me last week and told me to try. Idid and once I got started I couldn't put it down only took 2 days to read the read. I highly recommend it. If your interested in it check my bookshelf. I now plan to get Bag of Bones.
