I tried to post a book directly to someone's WL this morning.  I'm not sure what I did wrong.

Well, first I do know - silly me posted the book and then tried to post it to the member.  I was able to cancel because it did have an RC.

Then I put my account on vacation hold and went directly to the member's WL and hit Post This Book per the instructions in the HC.  Dratted book went to another member!  Once again RC's phew!

Now the book is off my shelf and I'm going to just send it directly to the member and ask for a credit.

Any ideas of what I did wrong?  I'd really like to do this in the future.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Geri,

Be sure you hit Post This Book while you are on their wishlist.  Do not hit Post This Book from the book description page or it will go FIFO.  If the Post This Book is missing from their WL, then their account is on vacation hold.

Darn, that's what I thought I did.  I'll just have to try again down the road.  Not with this book!

You have to take your account off hold to post to someone's WL, otherwise it gets posted to your bookshelf.  Then, when you take your account off hold, it goes to FIFO and not the person to whom you were trying to post.  Found this out the hard way myself not long ago- I'm not sure why there is nothing in the HC about it, because I'd guess it's a fairly common occurance.

Yah, I was going to say, I think if you have your account on hold (or if the person you're trying to post to is on hold) the book just goes to FIFO.

Jary, Lesley and Cheryl you guys rock!

Today the book was off my shelf - yes!  So, I went to the members WL, hit Post This Book and yes, yes, yes it worked!  I managed to post the book to the person I had promised it to.

Now, I'm not quite as dumb as dirt.

Not dumb, Geri, just ignernt! LOL Most of us know this stuff because we learned the hard way, too.  ;)

I confess when I saw the title of this thread I thought maybe it was the title of a new cozy mystery!

My favorite phrase for really stupid is Dumber than a Box of Rocks. ...at work, all I have to say to my co-workers is "box of rocks" and they "get" the code even if everyone else around thinks I'm nuts.
