I have a pretty heavily wishlisted book without a dust jacket. I have no idea what happened to it. The weird thing is that the book has NEVER been opened. I had to barely open the front cover to get the ISBN and even the front cover cracked a little from never being opened. (It's because I got two of the same book the day it came out) So now that I have posted it and it is waiting for the member to accept it. I know I don't HAVE to pm them to tell them about the dust jacket. But at the same time, I kinda feel like maybe I am tricking them by noy\t telling them there is no dust jacket. Especially since the actual cover of the book is incredibly boring without the dust jacket. Any ideas or opinions? |

AND, the problem with pm'ing them is that if they don't pm me back I still won't know what to do... |

If the dust jacket is important to a member, they need to have an RC. Just post it and don't worry. DBF picked up a copy of HP #7 at a thrift store yesterday without the dust jacket and it is going out tomorrow without it. If they try to RWAP, they would be in the wrong as it is postable. It's not something I would worry about. |

I think if someone feels strongly about having a dust jacket then they would have an RC stating that. Otherwise I don't think you have anything to worry about. :) |

Haha. My book is HP 7 as well!! |

It's true, you don't have to PM, and some people feel that if you DO send a PM, it will be expected from everyone. Having said that, if you feel really strongly about it, you could always PM and say "if I don't hear from you by (date) I'll go ahead and send the book". If they don't want it you would have to cancel from your end so they don't lose their place in line, and since it's a wishlisted book you won't be losing your place in line either. Diane |

But then she couldn't repost it until that person got one or put up an RC. I wouldn't PM. If a dust jacket is important then they need to have an RC. |

That's true Erika, you'd have to tell the person to write a dustcover RC, which would probably be fine because if they're refusing your copy the dustcover is obviously important to them. Diane |

Yes, I agree, you do not need to PM about that. (I would not). I have an RC for dustjackets because I do care. But I think the majority of people do not. |

One time I received a hardcover book without it's dustjacket. I didn't expect a pm from the sender before they sent it to me, but that was when I decided that I needed an RC requiring all hardcovers to have their djs. I have since posted and sent the hardcover book without its dustjacket and didn't pm the requestor ahead either. They marked it as received with no problem and they didn't have a DJ RC. So, I wouldn't worry about it and send it along. If they don't want books without their DJs, then they need to have an RC. |

On that topic, I listed a HB a while ago that didn't have the dust jacket any more (my DH has the to-me inexplicable habit of throwing away DJs when he starts reading a book....yeesh). I checked the help docs to make sure I didn't have to have the DJ, then sent it off. The receipient PM'ed me saying he was disappointed that there was no jacket - I wrote him back nicely citing the condition requirements. He hadn't noticed them until then, so said he'd set up a RC in future (and after that I did as well). I felt bad that he was disappointed with the book that he got, even though we were both nice about it and he never requested his point back. So I understand your urge to want to clarify that someone knows they're not getting the DJ, but since it's in the site documentation about condition, you don't really have to nor are obligated to. |

I prefer my HC with dust jackets, but wishlist so few of them I've let the RC slide. Once in a while one shows up without a DJ, and yeah it's a bit annoying...but if it annoyed me enough I'd activate the RC (duh). As the requester it's entirely my option to control the situation. |
