I have a couple of hardback books that I have listed but they don't have the dust jacket.  Are they still OK to list?  The books are in GREAT shape and have lots more reading in them..  What is the rules or takes on this?

Thanks,

Linda

Dust jackets aren't required unless the requestor has a specific condition regarding the dust jacket.

Dustjackets are NOT required on hardcover books.  As long as the book is postable, you should be fine.

Some members have "requestor conditions" where they will specify something like "Hardcovers must have dustjackets".  So, if a member selects your book, and has that requestor condition, you must  decline the transaction.

Dust jackets are also okay if they don't meet normal PBS guidelines (no rips, stains, etc.).  HOWEVER, if the person has a RC asking for dust jackets, then the DJ must meet all the requirements of postability.

From the Help Center (my emphasis):

Dust Jacket:

  • The DUST JACKET (this is not the same as the cover of a book) does not have to be included with a book at all, unless the requestor had this in their Requestor Conditions.
  • So DUST JACKET condition cannot be considered as part of the condition of a book, unless there were Requestor Conditions on the request specifying that the dust jacket be included.
  • If the Dust Jacket was to be included as specified in the Requestor Conditions on the request, the Dust Jacket must meet the same conditions as defined for the cover, below.

Thanks, guys!  I was just making sure about it.  I always read the "requestor conditions" when someone request one of my books and so far not having any trouble sending books to them...  Since my home is smoke-free but not pet free!

Linda, thanks for mailing out some great books. I love hardcovers and really it doesn't matter to a lot of us if they have the dust jacket!

They're fine. Just don't send them to anyone who says they need the dust jackets in their conditions.
