I recently RESWAPPED a book...hardcover without a dustjacket. I didn't receive the book with a dustjacket and my understanding is that it isn't required. I reswapped it and got a PM that made it sound like the new recipient was a bit unhappy, even going as far as saying she had planned to give this book as a gift. I didn't know how to respond because #1 I know a DJ isn't required... #2 It was swapped to me like this-since it didn't bother me, it didn't occur to me that it might bother someone else... #3 This person didn't have a request stating this was a condition... based on the suggestion by the poster below, I have responded with two PM's-one to reply with my personal apologies and one with a copy/paste of the help center rules, hope that is alright? You should reply with a firm but polite PM quoting the help center fact that dust jackets are not required. TPTB do not like for us to ignore PM's even when the sender is wrong. Go to the Help Center and put in dust jacket to get the exact wording. |

It's perfectly okay to want books with dust jackets, but she needs to attach a Requestor Condition to her orders, in that case. |

You did exactly what you should have done, you apologized for not being able to read her mind (if it was going to be a gift she should have made sure it was in giftable condition before ordering it by adding RCs that would make sure that's what she got) Then you quoted the HC to her letting her know that it wasn't your responsibility to make sure there was a DJ on the book without RCs asking for the contrary. At this point, the ball should be in her court. If she writes again and asks for her credit back, absolutely refuse, you do not owe it to her in anyway, shape, or fashion. If she doesn't ask for her credit back, make sure she didn't mark it Received With A Problem (RWAP) which you didn't indicate whether she did or not. If she did, you need to convincer her that since she was under a misconception about your resonsponsility to have a DJ, she needs to use the button available to change the RWAP to a "Marked by Mistake" because it really is a mistake, and it's all hers, you did nothing wrong. Hope that helps! |

If she won't let the matter drop-don't feel guilty about reporting it to PBS. They'll send her a polite reminder about the dust jacket rule and how harrassing other members won't be tolerated. You don't owe this woman a thing. You sent a postable book in good faith and if she wants a dust jacket she needs to have an RC requiring one.
Did she mark the book received? If she's refusing to do so because of the dust jacket then you need to contact PBS. Maybe warn her first that if she doesn't mark the book received you will report her to PBS. |

Sounds like you handled it exactly right to me! I hope they don't get unpleasant or cause trouble for you, but you're in the right, so there's certainly no need for you to feel badly about sending a book that was perfectly postable by PBS standards. Cheryl |

If she has "special" conditions then she should have a RC. She didn't so tough for her. |

Thank you for all the replies. I have been a member here for about 2 years and this was a first for me so felt really bad. I did receive a PM from her and she agreed that she should have put a 'condition'on...she did put that book was received (so I received credit)..I think it just boiled down to the question of how should I react? I knew I wasn't in the wrong but .... anyway thank you all to your replies!!!!!!!!! |

She might have just been feeling you out to see if you'd offer a credit refund. It has been known to happen. |
