Ed Gein--Psycho!
Ed GeinPsycho
Author: Paul Anthony Woods
America may have had its fill of psychos for the last forty years, but none of them has inspired so many books and films (Pyscho, The Silence of the Lambs, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) as Wisconsin's cannibalistic handyman, Ed Gein. None of them has been used as the ultimate ogre in countless children's stories and off-color jokes, and none of t...  more »

A nicely detailed description of the man, his family and his life. Certainly nothing about this man's life seems nice, however, and many of his handyman-crafts turned my stomach. Lots of pictures are included to help get an idea of who this man was and what he did. The last couple chapters are devoted to the movies that were loosely based on Ed Gein's character, which was also quite interesting.

A review of the infamous serial killer's life, his murderous habits, and some insights into his behaviors, in the first half of the book. The second half of the book is devoted to the subculture that seems to have evolved around this man, including movies based, in part on his life, as well as several musical references and fan clubs. An interesting, but short read. I would have preferred more about the man himself than the cultural references, but that's just me. :)

My suggestion is that you do not read this book if you are under 18. That being said, I am certain that many people under 18 will now grab this book. :-)

Ed Gein was the true Norman Bates - but worse. This book goes into detail about his escapades and also gives pictures to leave little to the imagination. Do not pick up this book if you have a queasy stomach.

This book fills in all of the details of Ed Geins life growning up and his family history. Does a good job explaining why this man did not adjust to society and what led to his killings and grave robbing. Contains actual police dialog as they press Ed for his explaination as to what he did and why. This book is not for the faint of heart!!

Great book. Very insightful into the small mind, and psychopathology of Ed Gein. The details of the farm house where Gein lived, and the reactions of the people in the community where he was a local are first-hand and phenomenal.
