The author has certainly researched the archetypes of children's fantasy, but nothing seems really original to this former (by 44 years) 9 year old. The drawings are rather fun.

This was a charming story filled with all kinds of interesting creatures and has quite a few wonderful illustrations that make the book all the more wonderful. It's filled with adventure for the main character, Twig, as well as some sad points. I thinks it's a great read for young and old alike.
