I picked up this book due to my interest in Andy Warhol more than any knowledge or fascination with Edie Sedgewick. Warhol made this sheltered waif, the product of an old Boston family, the centerpiece of his factory films and the surrounding buzz for a short period in the 60's. Sadly, Edie wasn't made of the stuff that could tolerate the swing from anonymity to fame to anonymity. Drugs and a family history of mental health issues predisposed her to what would become a dramatic rise and horrific fall (actually, several). The book is rendered in an unusual style of interview excerpts from those that knew Edie, and those that knew those around her. Heartbreaking - you never know the girl and wonder if those around her ever did either.
