I love that we can insert the actual wieght of our package when we are printing up labels, to see the postwage rate for that weight...but the printed postage amount always reverts back to whatever original dollar amount was shown.

I wonder, how many times I have sent out items with insufficient postage because what's printed on the label is incorrect?

This problem has been here since day one of the new label format (when PBS offered online postage)                      and I brought it to the attention of R&R back then.

I am surprised it is still making the same mistakes.

ETA:  I wrote to PBS about this, and the librarian said they were working on the problem.

Lo and behold!  PBS did some renovations on the shipping label page.

Now you can specify if the wieght you enter is the book weight, or the wrapped package weight.  Let's see how well it calculates for us now.

Reesa, I've never had that problem.  When I type in the correct weight, the rate changes on the display and the new rate is what gets printed.   I wonder what the difference is?

What I wish is that we could choose the rate (media, first class, etc.).  Sometimes, I want to get the book to the person quickly and would rather send it first class, but have no choice when using the pre-printed postage.

I never have a problem either-  I have to wonder if maybe it reverts back to the original dollar amount because it is the same cost.

Ahhh, but I don't use the online postage....maybe that is the problem.

Whenever I change the weight, I see the correct total for postage, then I go to print, and poof, it goes back to the old amount.

I also don't like that we can't change the label to say first class or media.  It seems arbitrary on what it decides to choose for you.  Often I have just marked out media mail, and written in first class on the wrapper.

Another thing I don't get is how those initial weights got there in the first place. They are almost always short by  .5 ounce or more!   It always makes me check the isbn, and the title, and everything to see if I might be sending the wrong book!

Frustrating.  When a book is slow to arrive to it's destination, I start to worry that I short-changed the postage because of this glitch.

Ah well...things usually get fixed around here eventually.  Maybe I am the only one having this problem, or the only one who notices it.

I have that problem too sometimes, Reesa.  I had to change it twice the other day to get it to print for media mail.

Yesterday, I went to print a label for a book, and it said it weighed 3 lbs 8 oz.  I weighed the book, and it weighed a little under 12 oz.  Big difference, huh?  That one might be a data entry error.  I was able to fix that one before I printed.

That's not the problem.  It happens with books under 6 ounces, and when I have to correct the weight given for that title..  The 1st class rate gets higher with increments of 1/2 ounce I believe, so the price it shows me is correct  when I enter the correct wieght, but then the printed price is not correct, because it goes back to the orginal price it showed for the wrong weight.

Thanks Amanda!

I've not gone plumb loco!

Even if the data is incorrect, they provide a place for us to correct it, and it doesn't do the job.  That gets on my nerves!

It hasn't done that to me in a long time. It doesn't look like you use PBS postage so you are talking about the estimates right? Right after the system change, it seemed like I never got a book with the right number on it. Now everything is fine. Some of the estimates are out in left field, but every one I change prints what I changed it too.

Here it goes again.  Today I was preparing to print a label...the book weight estimated on the form was 1.4 ounces and estimated shipping price of $1.30, but actual weight was 4.6 ounces.

I changed the weight to 4.6 and the suggested first class rate showed as $1.98.  When I went to print the label, the estimated 1st class rate now shows as $1.81.

So...why does this happen, and why doesn't it get fixed?

The previous label I created had the correct amount printed, even efter changing the weight, so there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what's going wrong with the system.

I guess I will send another note to R&R.
