Why is it that one edition of a book has a long waiting line while the same book, different edition is offered by the  hundreds?

I like the new cover a lot more. I'd wait for it if I was wanting one.

Different editions aren't just and extra run on the books. They can have different covers, slightly different bindings, different fonts, even different sizes. (MMPB sizes don't always match anymore. I've got one series of MMPB's that I stopped collecting in paper form because they suddenly came out $2 more expensive and 1 inch taller than the first 9-10 in the series. Yuck.)

Or there could be a new introduction from the author, or an extra bit of preview to the next book in the back.

There could be all kinds of reasons one edition is wanted more than another.

It could also be what came up first in the search.

Some members collect hardcover, or can only hold the smaller mmpb, or started collecting the series in tradesize.  A specific edition for a class or reading group.  Large print editions are often wishlisted after the regular editions have copies available.  Many reasons, some as simple as mentioned above...the copy that appears first on a search.

I imagine there are also people out there who collect books with movie tie-in covers.

Another reason is that you have a 200-book limit on your wish list, so you can't put every edition on it.  I suspect some people don't think to search for posted books only where they enter a title, and only check off the first result.

Also, people may be searching by ISBN and not even see other editions.

Well, the author's children go to my daughter's school, so we're just glad people are reading his books!

As others said...plenty of reasons. You don't post the book's format along with the numbers--those 50 wishers are most likely either wishing for 1) a large print version or 2) the audio version. Both of those would be very specific and possibly required due to poor vision or blindness on the part of the requestor.

All of the above posts are correct.  In this example, first ISBN listed is a hardcover, second is for the paperback.  That difference in binding is probably the reason for the discrepancy...

There is a huge difference in the page count so the books don't seem to have the same content or the layout is different.

I have a book on my WL that is the original release, I already have the new release but want to read the book in its origina fom too. Maybe on this book many of the people who are wishing for the new book already read the old one and now want to see the extra stuff/changes in the new release.
