If you memorized half the lines in Annie Hall and you loved J.D. Salinger's short stories, this book is going to float your boat. It's that same Upper West Side of Manhattan milieu, but even more rarefied. An anxious, introspective, intellectual young man falls for a gifted, mercurial young woman at a party, and then takes her to see French films while they torture each other emotionally. The language is beautiful--impeccable, delightful writing on a mechanical level, so pretty!
