Excerpt: Again we read: " As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God" Rom. viii. 14. The reception of God s guidance or the following of the Divine teaching is another condition. Again, " Be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty " 2 Cor. vi. 17. Thus a separation from sin is required of us in order to be the children of God. " Be ye therefore followers or imitators of God as dear children " Eph. v. 1. We take this to be the very essence of Godliness, or God-likeness, being like God, manifesting the Spirit of Christ. " Be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation" Phil. ii. 15. " In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother " 1 John iii. 10. These are some of the conditions of the believer's sonship. They are the marks distinguishing sainta from sinners, Christians from non-christians. Now what are the privileges of the believer's sonship ? (1) Freedom from a servile fear, or liberty through the truth. There is a freedom from the tyranny of the world, the flesh and the devil. The children of God have victory over the world. Whilst in the world they are not of the world. " The friendship of the world is enmity with God " James iv. 4.
