I just adore her writing style!  First person if you can believe that, but she makes you feel like your sitting across the table from a favorite Aunt and she is telling you about her life's adventures.  Excellent !   Just had to say it!

I agree, especially her early Amelia Peabody books. I actually have 3 signed first editions. The last I checked, one of them was worth $300+!

Do you know that she also writes as Barbara Michaels and her real name is Barbara Mertz? Her BM books are quite different from the EP books. They tend to be gothic romances or gothic mysteries.

ETA: Oh, and she lives about 2 hours from me in (or near) Frederick, MD.

I know I am a little late to the party, I just love Amelia, Emerson and Ramses cracks me up.  My library doesn't have the complete collection and I am going to have to get them piece meal it looks like.  I wanted book #2 so badly I broke my own rule and bought it for my Nook, since I don't tend to re-read mystery novels.  I am going to check my fave used book store today and see if they have any.

I'm also part of the fan club! That series was my first historical mystery series and is still my favorite!

I have never tried one. I should really stop reading this forum. I want to read everything mentioned here.

Oh, Letty said that book was great...I must read it!

Oh, Misfit said that book was a wallbanger...I must read it so I can see exactly how suckified it really is!

There is really something wrong with me.

Valli, one thing about the Amelia Peabody books is that they are a easy one day read.

I love her, too!  I met her at a book signing and she was very nice.  She seemed friendly and down to earth,  just as expected!

I'm in the I Love Amelia camp too.  I haven't read the entire series, but as every good hoarder should, I have just about the entire set here, ready for a re-read.  She is such fun, Valli!  devil

Sorry, Donna. The strange words my son uses creep into my speech without me even realizing it. Yeah, I imagine there probably isn't many adults saying the word "suckified". Ugh. You all should give me the noodle every time I say something weird.

You have convinced me...I want to try an Amelia Peabody book....Added to my reminder list...

ETA: Good golly! How many books are in this series?! A ton!

Then Valli can send them all to me!

Hey Colleen -- if you meet up with Genie, I'm crashing the party!! (I'm in the DC area, in Rockville [or North Bethesda, when you want to sell your house].)

The early books are the best, Valli. You'll love Crocodile on the Sandbank. It's so totally your sense of humor.

Valli, No apologies, I wasn't offended. I was amused.
