Then each embroiderer explains her working methods, the development of ideas and motifs from the original, and the choice of techniques and stitches. There is a great deal of practical information (with working and step-by-step diagrams) covering fabrics and threads, using design motifs, choosing and working techniques and stitches -- and even using a computer as a design tool.

'Embroidery Studio' was conceived and written by members of the Practical Study Group of the Embroiderers' Guild. the PSG was formed in 1973 and comprises some of the most eminent and best known practitioners and teachers within the Guild, including authors of many recent books, researchers in historical and foreign embroidery and professional embroiderers who work to commission and exhibit nationally and internationally.
The aim of the group is to promote and extend the practice and enjoyment of embroidery, and to this end tutors can be booked for day schools and residential courses throughout the country. Regular exhibitions are held to show finished work.
