A bit dark for a historical novel for kids, but with important scene-painting for the times depicted (fall of Constantinople). Walsh is wonderfully talented (*Grace*) but can turn that talent to bad ends (*Knowledge of Angels*). For a medieval Crusades-oriented book more positive and wholesome, with a godly message and better suited to youngsters, try *A Door in the Wall.*
