So its the end of the month.

How did your deals go?  Did you find that it helped by putting the genre in your post? Did you not notice any change?

As a person looking for a deal, did you find more deals with the genres listed?

How is the Book Bazaar working for you. I know alot of folks had concerns that the book bazaar was getting a bit overcrowded with the same stuff, do you notice a change?

Anything else anyone wants to share with us, plesae do.

This is YOUR Bazaar, and so its good to hear what you all have to say.

As for me personally,  I took advantage of a few more deals than normal, it helped when I knew what kind of shelf I was looking at.

Loved all the book pleas and why we should save your books. How did that work for those of you who did it? I know I saved a few books that I wouldn't have normally heard about. You guys made me laugh out loud many times.

Gentle reminders:

I cannot get any more sticky threads at the top of the page. Yes, there are several that would be great to have, but the powers that be say no.
Don't look for deals on wishlist books.
No non boxer trades. Credits must be exchanged.
1 credit per book, unless its an audio book. I don't care if you would give 400 credits for a wishlist book, you can't offer it.

So let me hear from you all!!

Edited to add: Please don't scold someone for doing something wrong in their thread. Either pm the person, or pm me with a link and I will pm them. It doesn't embarass someone for not knowing the rules. I want to keep this friendly and everyone makes a mistake. Better to take them aside and tell them, than announce if for all to see. Everyone was new once. Including me!!

Bernie, I totally agree with the latter part of your post. It is better to give a person the benefit of getting a quiet PM, than chastising them on this public forum.  One person did this to me once, turns out they had misunderstood my post.

I enjoy when a person is as specific as they can be in their subject line instead of a general word.  It is appreciated and saves us all time. I bet it helps their posts be more successful too.

i just wanted to say that I think posting the rule in the thread is also nice in a way. Because then everyone that reads that thread sees that rule. I know I've read threads with a rule posted that I was unaware of & was happy to see it there. So I then knew it wasn't allowed or there was a different way for that to be done. That's just my opinion. I can also say I've received a post to one of my threads for a rule I wasn't aware of & the member that posted it was very nice and polite & I greatly appreciated their help. I think it's all in the way it done.

I'm mostly a receiver of deals and I've taken advantage of one or two this month.  I have mostly had good results, in one instance the person took too long to mark her book as mailed, or canceled without letting me know; and I received the book without a deal from another person.  I probably wouldn't have ordered the book on its own, so please can people be on top of their deals and prevent others from being frustrated when they look for deals?  This is a big reason I don't make deals, I find keeping track of who ordered what just a bit too much work for me to keep up with.

I am very new to PBS but I was able to take advantage of a couple of good deals this month.  They went very smoothly and I was very glad to stretch my limited credits.  I do appreciate when members list genres, series or well known authors in their thread title.

I did 3 for 1 this month and I took the suggestion to put genres in the title. I'd only ever done 2 for 1 before so I don't know if the orders were from the title or the better deal.

I wound up shipping 21 books for 7 credits. One person did 9 books for 3 credits and there were four other ones. One was someone who I told about the offer after I posted a wish list book.

I am usually big on deals (I have taken many of them since I have been here). This month is the first time that a deal has fallen through. I was very disappointed because I ordered 2 books for a multiple book deal and both books were passed to the next person when they were not marked mailed by the deadline (the next people where really quick so I couldn't cancel). Apparently, the person with the deal had some personal issues they were dealing with but as I explained to them, they could have Pm'd me and I could have canceled the order. So now I am only getting 2 of the books I wanted instead of 6 (they are a series).

I think  the bazaar is greatly improved with genre listed. I have started ignoring deals without an indication.

I also have been enjoying the threads where people are just highlighting their books.

I have taken advantage of a lot of deals, and many people have taken a lot of mine this month.

Regarding Judith and Shelley's problem of cancelled deals. It is possible the deals were not cancelled at all. I believe that too many times people start on someones bookshelf to take advantage of a deal and then "leave" a person's bookshelf by going to the "description of the book page". Then they order the book from the "description of the book page".  Unknownst to the buyer - they just ordered from the FIFO system. The member with the deal never got the order in the first place.

I've had this happen several times and I've had to PM the person to tell them I never got their order. They have to quickly cancel their order in the FIFO system and carefully reorder from my bookshelf.

From the rules:  If no deal is satisfactory to both parties, YOU (the requestor) should cancel the request you made for the book from her shelf (if the sender cancels, the book will be removed from her bookshelf and she will have to repost it and go to the back of the "FIFO" line.  More important, the request will be passed to a new sender who is not part of the deal, and this will cause confusion and disappointment).

I wish the we could delete an entire post when credits are taken, deals are completed, etc. I believe this would allow posts to stay on the 1st page a lot longer. Sometimes duplicate threads pop up for unknown reasons and it would also help if we could delete those as well.

Thanks for all the work you do in the BB, Bernie.

I did have a deal fall through because a girl listed which genres whe was letting go on deals, and i filtered her shelf according to said genres. When i requested, she claimed that the ones i wanted weren't part of that deal.

I think people should be aware that just because you think a book is of one genre, it might be listed in the system differently. Paranormal and other types of romance can also be listed under Sci-Fi and Fantasy and under Literature & Fiction (not just romance), and Mysteries and Horror/Thrillers can be interchangeable. I am sure there are plenty of instances where this can happen.

So, when listing a particular genre you are putting up for a deal, it would be handy if you look at your bookshelf and see what your books are listed as. If you don't want particular books to be part of that deal, please word your deal accordingly, or just put those books on Hold or something. I was very disappointed when she told me the deal wasn't going to happen. =(

Otherwise, i think people have really been helpful with their Subject Titles and so forth.

I ran a 2 for 1 offer this month and I have to say, I'm happy with how things went.  The downside would be that my TBR shelves are now stuffed and I'm not sure how I'm going to get everything read!  And I'm still requesting books!!  Go figure.

I also spent a considerable amount of timeadding books to my reminder list if I found one on a bookshelf that had no ther books that I was interested in.  This helps me a lot when I am browsing other bookshelves and see a book that is on my reminder list.  Then I can spend time looking for other books that I didn't know about.

Bernie, your comment about PMing someone instead of calling them out on a thread is spot on.  This happened to me early in the month and almost scared me away from the BB.  The thread asked what books we were looking for.  I honestly didn't realize that a book I mentioned was a WL book.  But I felt like I had been handslapped for asking.  It turns out that yes, it was a WL book and there was only one person wishing for it...ME.

Carol, that was not the case in my situation. I have done many deals and I make sure I am in the person's bookshelf when I order, I double check the order by clicking the PM button on the order, I make a post in their thread, and I PM them with a duplicate of what I posted in the thread. While I completely understand what you are saying (it can be a common mistake), it was definitely not the case this time. She knew I had placed the order but stated that she wasn't worried about this site while she was dealing with some issues that had come up. My point was just PM me, that's all I ask! I understand that people have a life outside of PBS but let me move on to the next deal instead of waiting for you if you cannot complete the transaction.

Carol, I too am careful to be sure and stay on the members bookshelf.  The book was definitely canceled because it shows up in my transaction archive.  I seem to be in a bad patch that way, not just in deals, but in single books I order.  I've had at least three this month that have been canceled by the system timing out when no one responds to the order.  Maybe it's just people on vacation, and if so I'd like to request everyone out there to use the vacation hold feature if you are planning to be away more than four days.

Bernie - I 'pimped my shelf ' in that thread and had two orders that I know must have come from that thread.  That was a fun thread to read, and it was very positive for my shelf, too.

I had a very successful 3 for 1 deal in which I got rid of nine books.... I didn't list genres etc in the title, but I did list it in the post.  So I would say that was a pretty successful idea.

The "I have the only copy of" was very successful for me this month, too.  I got rid of six books that way (and I have more to add to it now!)

I got rid of two unpostable WLs in that thread, and another unpostable WL in a thread of my own.

I have also spent a couple of points on deals in here this month......

I have learned that the BB is a great place to hang out!

I don't know what exactly was the reason for all the orders I got this month. I did start listing the different types of books I have on my shelf in the description line, so that may have been part of it. I am doing a 3 for 1 or 5 for 2 deal on all paperbacks, and 2 for 1 on hardbacks so that has helped get rid of a lot of books at a time. I also added my shelf to different threads, Your 'pimp my shelf', the multiple author thread, and one of my own so it was seen in lots of different places. I know my own thread had over 500 viewers, so even though the majority didn't order from me, a lot of people were at least looking at my shelf. I did mail out close to 30 books this month. Probably ordered at least half that many myself!!! One thing I did do this month was check the threads that were requesting books and if I had something I thought they might be interested in I PM'd them and asked them to check my shelf or listed the books I had that they were looking for. I got several orders that way.

I love Book Bazaar and think it's a great way for people to get their shelves out there to be seen. One thing I have noticed is that some members have multiple threads. Seems like if they just had one thread and edited that thread to make their changes [changing deal offers, adding books, etc.] there would be less threads posted and maybe a little less clutter??  That's what I do on my personal thread and even on the other threads where you can list your shelf. And one 'bump' a day does help to keep your shelf near the first page. Orders from your shelf will bump it back to the top, too.

For new members it's a good idea to tell whether or not your books are coming from a smoking or non-smoking home. I have had at least 3 requests this month that have had as a requirement that they won't accept books that smell of smoke.  Since I state that mine come from a smoke-free home, I think that has helped with orders from people who have that requirement.

PBS is the greatest thing since sliced bread!!  I'll never get through my TBR pile. I read 3 and order 6!! Oh, well, I certainly will never run out of books to read and I keep neighbors and friends happy 'cause they can come to their own personal library and borrow books to read.

Have a great reading day and God bless!

As a new guy here, I love this section.  I have found some great deals...I suppose having genres in the title helped steer me a little, but I think most of the deals I've found were from people with larger shelves with mixed genres not specified.

I did not start any deal threads, but I have posted in various "highlight a book" threads and a few others that resulted in several of my books being ordered.

Yes, I wish there was a way to remove threads of a completed/successful deal as they do clog up listings. Then again, it could just be the neat freak in me coming out.   : ^ )  Even if it was just the originator of the thread having access to doing that type of "editing".

The only way threads that are completed are removed, are by not posting in them.  Once a deal is done, you can edit the subject to say DONE or something similiar. They will fall off the page when people start posting in them. Sadly, its never going to happen that we can remove the posts ourselves.

I enjoy the book bazaar a lot, and took advantage of some excellent deals this month, receiving some excellent books, including two '5 for 1' deals and Bernie's two for one. Bernie's package set a speed record, travelling across country to me in just two days. I liked having genres noted in deal headers, but generally looked at the first page of books anyway, to get a feel for the shelf. Sometimes I went on, and sometimes not.

I posted a three for one deal of my own, and got nine orders (sending out 27 books). Coincidentally, at the same time as the deal was going on, I also received about the same number of FIFO orders. After being so busy getting everything ready and shipped that week, I had a total of one FIFO order the next week. Feast or famine!

I put genres in my deal header, but I'm not sure how helpful it was, because (1) I had more orders when I ran the same deal in July, and (2) I tend to get a lot of repeat orders. This time, four of the nine orders were repeat. That said, I will continue to post genre information, simply because I like to see it myself on other deals.

By the way, another shipping wonder story this month -- I mailed a book to Hawaii via media mail, and got word that it was received just four days later. Kudos to the post office!

believe that too many times people start on someones bookshelf to take advantage of a deal and then "leave" a person's bookshelf by going to the "description of the book page". Then they order the book from the "description of the book page".  Unknownst to the buyer - they just ordered from the FIFO system. The member with the deal never got the order in the first place.******THANK YOU CAROL!!!  now i know why ....twice...this has happened to me.  I was at a loss of trying to figure out what happened.

Now..I had a great sucess on my book deals...both the ones I offered and the ones I received.
