I liked that this shamanic journey was from the female experience. It starts out fair but gets better as it goes and I enjoyed the second half of the book quite a bit more than the first part. If you like books that bend your mind and take you down a rabbit hole, this is a good one.
I didn't connect with the author herself, but the entire read was worth the unusual experiences. For anyone who has had shamanic experiences, it is meaningful. For someone having a difficulty grasping the abstract, it might not resonate so much.
IN writing, her human-ness has come through in ways I'm guessing she didn't realize or intend. I definitely didn't get any warm fuzzies or think, "This is a person I'd like to meet." But that wasn't the point of the book. I also recognize that this is a culture which is completely different to American culture and that could be part of that.
I gave it 5 stars because at the heart of it there was a very interesting journey. Also, it is nice to read a book by a woman on the subject, as most books on the subject seem to be authored by men.
This is a book for the imagination and for the shamanically and culturally inquisitive. There are no warm fuzzies here but its a worthwhile read.
If she has a follow up, I will definitely be reading it. I am glad that I read this book.
