I posted a book to another member's WL, but it turns out she does not have any credits.  She had said she wanted the book, but I guess she didn't realize I would post it to her WL.  She can't accept it now, but she is expecting to get a credit soon.  My question is:  If the system times out my offer to her, will it go to the next member that is wishing?  Or will it simply be cancelled because I only posted it to her WL?  I am trying to avoid cancelling because we have a deal on another book and I want to send them out together.  Thanks, JeanneB

It will roll over to the next member in FIFO.

If they accept it, you can just mark "Cannot Mail" and then the transaction will end.

Thank you Sara! I didn't realize they could accept it when they don't have any credits.

I don't think they can accept if they don't have credits.

I always PM before I post books directly to someone's WL just so something like this doesn't happen.

Jeanne - to get around that problem, when I have a book that's on a Friend's WL, I will send them a PM asking if they still want the book and give them a time frame to let me know (usually 2-3 days), and then if they say they don't have credits, already got the book but forgot to take it off their WL, etc.,) I'm then free to offer it to someone else, or in your case, you would be free to hold the book until they got a credit if you wanted to.  HTH.  Take care.  Pat

Mary and Pat,

You are right of course.  I had made a deal for one book and then I checked her WL and saw she was wishing for the sequel.  So I told her I had the sequel, the same ISBN that is on her WL, did she want it?  She said yes, so I said I would post to her WL and then did it.  Then she came back and said she didn't have any credits, but that two credits are on their way so she would have them soon.  So, I messed up by not waiting for her okay to post to her WL, and to ask if she had the credits.  This was my mistake, so I just sent her a credit so that she can accept my offer.   LIve and learn!

Jeanne - actually you did what I would have done.  Her mistake was in not telling you she had no credits at the present time, but had some in the works, and could you hold off for a few days.  I think when they say yes, we presume they have the credits to back up their acceptance.  Glad things worked out for you. Pat

In order to stop a book from rolling to the next person in line, you could have placed your Bookshelf on Vacation Hold. That would have "captured" the book so that it would not have been offered to the next wisher. Then you could have deleted the book from your Bookshelf and then removed the Vacation Hold without the book being available.
