Those people that we most highly honor from the Bible had one experience in common. It is called Theophany. Of course, some would argue that no one could ever really come to know God in a moment or one lifetime. Throughout eternity we will grow constantly toward the Divine Image. Still the Scriptures point out many examples of men and women who prayed and conversed with God daily for many years only to experience in a short time that which they had so long sought. They truly caught a glimpse of God (one definition of Theophany), and from that day forward they were never the same. If we dig deeply, prayerfully, into the Theophany experiences of the great saints of God's "Hall of Fame," we might just catch a glimpse of Jesus Christ. That view might just be the starting point in a new, unending walk with God. That vision might just accomplish for us what it did for those spiritual giants.
