Jane, just to clarify, are you offering magazines for credits?  Just so you know, that is against the rules here, and, magazines cannot be mailed at the media mail rate.

Offering magazines in the Book Bazaar for credit IS allowed. Media that is not swappable/postable through PBS is now allowed to be swapped in the Book Bazaar (the change was made a year or two ago). These need to be traded under specific guidelines - do not post them into the system and do not mail them media mail.

From the General Rules of the Book Bazaar:

http://www.paperbackswap.com/How-Use-Forum-Please-Read/topic/39715/

(8) Swapping of "unpostables" in this forum

  • It is OK to offer unpostable media (such as magazines) for credits in "unofficial" swaps in this forum, or as freebies/incentives to order from a Bookshelf .
  • Remember that non-Media-Mail-eligible items CANNOT be sent using Media Mail postal rate. For example, DVDs and VHS tapes and magazines and pamphlets/booklets without ISBNs are all NOT permitted to be posted at PBS; they can all be offered as freebies/incentives, or for credit in "unofficial" swaps in this forum. Any items that contain advertising (ie, magazines or booklets bought at a supermarket checkout stand), or are not Media items (anything but books, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes) can't be sent Media Mail, so the whole package will have to go First Class or Priority Mail. DVDs/VHS tapes/CDs may be sent using Media Mail postal rate. Non-media items can't be swapped on the site - the Book Bazaar is not a Flea Market!

So, are you saying I can swap them, or that i should take this add off? I am not looking to get my account suspended.

I PMed you Jane to hopefully clarify, but yes magazines CAN be offered in the Book Bazaar for credit as long as it is done as an unofficial transaction. The rule posted above is in the red sticky at the top of the Bazaar.

Sorry, I missed the rule change.  I'm sorry I confused you, Jane.

Not to worry Bonnie, because I was thinking the same thing. As I wanted to get rid of some of my older Country and Country Extra Mags, but saw this posted in Ask the Librarian, under what can be swapped here and this was posted in NOT ALLOWED:

Anything that contains advertising (such as single-issue comic books or comic book digests or magazines)

So, I am assuming that they changed their rules recently, but never updated it in Ask the Librarian, which is where I look for certain faqs. However, if it's officially changed then I'm on board to get rid of some of my mags, which is wonderful. Anyone interested (3/1)? (if it IS a new rule and we can post unofficially, then I will make a post soon with more details)  :)

Thanks Tibben. I read it multiple times and it didn't click. I keep forgetting that posting and swapping on Bazaar are two different things. When I look at it that way, it makes sense. In that case, I'm going to be putting it up for swap in Bazaar. Thanks for everyone who helped clear this up for those who were wondering. If it wasn't for the original post I would have never known. :)

I thank you also, Tibben, because I delved further and just got more confused by what seemed contradictions.  Your post was simple and cleared it right up.  Too bad I hadn't known this.  We had lots of different types of magazines, and finally just recently donated most to the library, or ugh, just tossed them.
