Imagine a crew of men aboard a submarine who had invaded enemy territory and sunk numerous Japanese ships -- now with only two torpedos left to discharge --then the men would be returning home victorious. With one torpedo striking its mark, and the last one released, there was immediate celebration and excitement that they were on their way home WHEN -- the last torpedo began a circle back to the submarine. They were unable to move fast enough to get out of the way, and the torpedo struck the submarine. This is an amazing account of that disaster and of the few men that survived only to become POW, abused, tortured, and nearly starved to death. This is an astonishing story of men who overcame the worst of circumstances and crimes against humanity to emerge as heroes indeed. A great read.
