This may have arisen in part from the nature of his contribu- tion to the volume, as a review of a long series of works by the late BaronBunsen—comprising 'Egypt's Place in Universal History,' ' The Kingdom of God ' in History,' ' The Bible for the People,' and 'Hip- ' polytus and his Age '—works which are suffi- ciently discursive in their range, as well as mis- cellaneous in their contents, to justify a reviewer in treating them in a somewhat similar style, while they touch the scheme of revealed religion at almost every point, and thus afford pegs to hang remarks upon in regard to every conceivable topic.
