I just opened my mail from yesterday to find an "Advance Uncorrected Reader's Proof". Since this isn't a book with an ISBN and isn't allowed for trading on PBS should I just not mark it recvd and send the member an email letting them know or mark it and risk not getting my credit back or what?

Thanks

You have to mark it received with a problem.  You should mark it as wrong book.

  • Wrong Book

    • This means the book did not match the listed item in one or more of the four necessary aspects--ISBN, Author, Title, Booktype (ie, paperback, hardcover, audio) OR that the book was an inappropriate item (such as an ARC) and should not have been Posted for swapping at PBS
    • Wrong booktype/wrong ISBN swaps are NEVER caused by a "glitch" in the system.  If you posted a hardcover using the paperback listing, you made the error.  The system will not "substitute" an incorrect listing.   If you started by entering the ISBN and then chose instead from the 'alternate ISBN' list shown below the listing preview, that is where you made the mistake.

The only time you ever have the option of not marking a book received is when it is a completely wrong book, not just a wrong version. Otherwise you must mark a book received and work out the credit return with the sender.

The other scenerio where you don't have to mark received is if you request a book and the first person the request goes to doesn't mark the book mailed but mails it anyway.  If you've gotten another copy via PBS or have another copy on its way to you, you don't need to mark that first copy received.  You can do it from your transaction archive but you don't have to.

If you receive a book that was never marked 'mailed', I didn't think a requester could get to the option to mark the book 'received'.

Yes, you can mark it received from your Transaction Archive, even if it was never marked mailed. It's listed as a Cancelled transaction, but you still have a link to mark received, if it does actually come (and you want to be nice and give the person their credit).
