Ex-library book are postable. I am not one for much PMing for regular swaps, so I personally wouldnt PM about them. The stamps and the mylar cover are acceptable. I wouldnt try to remove the cover, it may cause damage to the book itself making it unpostable. Just my $0.02. |

I would leave the mylar cover intact. They should have a RC if they do not want library books so they are postable. I would post them. If you feel like you would want to be notified -then notify the requestor - that is preference but not necessary. From the Help Docs I received a library book! Is this allowed?Yes, decirculated library books may be swapped at PBS.
If you receive an ex-library book that is not clearly marked "withdrawn" (not all libraries do this), you should contact the library to ask them if this book is still part of their collection.
If you do not wish to receive ex-library books, you should put this into your Requestor Conditions in your Account Settings. |

I'd just post them and not PM. I simply don't PM about much - either my books fit the guideliens and/or RC's or they don't. IF someone does complain they don't have a leg to stand on and you certainly won't need to return their credit. |

I'm agreeing with previous comments. Textbooks with highlighting and writing have a special classification and directions, but PBS rules state ex-library books (discard stamp or not) are entirely postable if they otherwise meet condition criteria. So unless the requestor has RC, it's all good. Yes, some members complain about library books even if they don't have RC in place....so go with your personal preference on whether or not to notify. It's added protection, so I would also leave the mylar dust jacket cover on. Let the new owner decide if they want to remove it or not. In my experience, most libaries no longer stamp 'Discard' on decirculated books. |

I also agree with all of the above postings. Either it fills the bill or it doesn't. |

Yup, me too. I have quite a few ex-lib. books on my shelf as I load up twice a year at my local FOL sale. Don't remove stickers or mylar covers, as you can cause damage that would then make it unpostable, and they are perfectly postable just as they are. I've only had two complaints over four years of sending a LOT of ex-library books and those were from people who were relatively new and didn't realize ex-library books were postable. One guy thought I stole the book from my library and listed it because the book was almost like brand new! LOL If your books have a bar code on them and your library didn't stamp the books "withdrawn" or something, I would draw a line through the barcode with a permanent marker. That's what my library usually does to signify it's not valid any longer. I also do NOT PM beforehand, as the book is postable as is. PMing in advance opens up a whole new can of worms--what if they don't reply by the mailing date? Do you send it then, or cancel? What if they answer AFTER you send the book? If you cancel the order, then you go back to the end of the FIFO line...which is silly, because it IS a perfectly postable book! So...my philosophy is, if the person has feelings about ex lib. books and markings, it's their responsibility to let me know that with an RC up front. Cheryl |

HI! I would post them and not PM. If they do comment then tell them they need an RC. As for the withdrawn stamps or lack of. Where I work we only cross over the spine label with black marker, cross over the barcode, and cross out the agency branch stamp. |
