I especially enjoyed "The Joy of Sesquipedalians" (I had to check to make sure I spelled that right) and the essay on compulsive proofreading. This book is a must for book and word lovers alike.
If you are a lover of literature, a bibliophile, or a word worm, then Anne Fadiman will be your friend. Read about the pleasure of reading and book collecting with a famous writer from a family of famous writers. Funny and familiar.
This is a wonderful book, but only read it if you are a book lover. With essays such as "marrying libraries" (she and her husband did not do this until they had been married for 5 years), courtly love vs. carnal love of books, compulsive proofreading, etc. this is the perfect book for book lovers to read. I laughed a LOT.
Being a book lover, I loved this book.
Excellent collection of essays relating to books and book lovers.
small but mighty little book! If you love reading, you will appreciate this book. It was hard to let this book of essays go.
All of the essays in Ex Libris are about books and reading, and Anne Fadiman's writing is engrossing and also informational. With essays themed around topics such as "Marrying Libraries" (combining her library with her husband's) and the "Odd-Shelf," (that one section in a reader's library that seems out of place), I found this collection very enjoyable. Fadiman has a great sense of humor, as well as a talent for research. This is a book I'd recommend to anyone who loves to read.
Fabulous collection of essays written by a book lover, writer, bibliophile, humorous wife, mom, daughter! Well written, funny, informative. Loved it!
