I am not a fan of Harlequin Romance novels, cant help it, just never gonna like them lol. I read alot of contemporary romance or historical romance though. Is there any way to fix it so that they dont show up continuously in my searches or suggestions? A way to just exclude that part of a genre? A way to not have them show up in my FABIL? Thanks for any help offered! |

Lisa, A normal search engine function is when you add a "-" (minus sign) prior to a parameter than that parameter is excluded. However, the search engine that drives this site isn't set up that way. It has a pre-set number of parameters you can choose from, the various genres you can find in the dropdown on the search for books page. I'm guessing to set a search that would exclude Harlequins, TPTP would have to set up a parameter "Romance Non-Harlequin" on that drop-down list. -RD |

Actually, the advanced search does have options to exclude keywords or title words. It will take minus signs. You can also save searches. Of course this won't help where Harlequin or Silhouette is not included in the data entry. |

You can also do this with the Book Browser, because Harlequin books have their own sub-genre in the database. Click on Exclude Multiple Genres. In the rightmost column look for Romance / Series and click the down arrow next to it. You can then click the checkboxes next to the specific series you want to exclude (or you can just click the one next to Series if you want to exclude everything underneath).
